| This experiment demonstrates principles of decision-making in dynamic oligopolies, especially the difficulties in forming and maintaining cartels. As an illustration of firm behavior under imperfect competition, the game distinguishes between procedurally rational choices and substantively rational decisions in the context of collusive, Cournot, and competitive equilibria. The paper discusses results from an actual classroom exercise and suggests some additional variations in institutional details. Instructions for students and a spreadsheet program for producing payoff tables are provided in the appendices. |

| Gene silencing, also called RNA interference (RNAi) is a specific mechanism of RNA degradation involved in gene regulation, development and defense in eukaryotic organisms. It became an important subject in the teaching programs of molecular biology, genetics and biotechnology courses in the last years. The aim of this work is to provide simple and inexpensive assays to understand and teach gene silencing using plants as model systems. The use of transient and permanent transgenic plants for expressing reporter genes, like those derived from jellyfish green fluorescent protein (gfp) encoding gene, provides a nice, colorful and conclusive image of gene silencing. | Ethics and agriculture is a complex debate, but one in which agricultural economics students must be prepared to participate. There are many links between economics and ethic or moral philosophy. Classroom teaching tends to focus on discussion of issues involving behavioral ethics and disregards the teaching of philosophical ethics and its application in agricultural economics. A discussion is presented regarding the ethical context we have inherited in agricultural economics. I offer some broad moral philosophy concepts and an argument for providing students with tools to develop a philosophical ethics perspective of agricultural economics. |

| Student satisfaction with and performance in an online agrisales course is compared with that of students enrolled in a simultaneously-taught classroom course. Assessment tools are developed for both sections. Online and classroom students were equally satisfied with the course and the instructor using most measures, but had different motives for course enrollment. Overall student performance did not differ. However, online students tended to do better on exams and homework assignments while classroom students demonstrated a greater ability to apply course concepts to a practical setting. | University faculty have numerous responsibilities, but development of our own and our students’ human capital is our primary job. To effectively develop human capital of others requires investing heavily in our own capital. This includes being actively involved in discovering knowledge. In addition, as agricultural economists, our clientele demand relevant research output which requires regularly informing them about our research. Conducting research, publishing and communicating findings to interested parties better equips us to provide a quality teaching program. This article presents an accumulation of evidence supporting this view and provides insights about how these activities might be integrated. |

| This paper provides information about the nonagricultural academic job market to students and administrators in Agricultural Economics departments. Particularly, we report the results of a survey sent to 295 non-Land Grant economics departments which met our criteria of offering only a Bachelor's degree in Economics. Of the 101 returned surveys, 45% indicated that they would consider hiring an Agricultural Economist to fill a faculty position within their department. These schools indicated that they place greater value on teaching-related experiences than research publications in prospective faculty members.
